On 8 June at 1 p.m. (CET), the Centre for Research on Law and Hybrid Threats will host the webinar ‘The Hybrid Threats Narrative in Migration Debates: A Human Rights Analysis,’ presented by Ms. Joanna Grygiel-Zasada.
About the webinar: Migration pressure has increasingly been framed as a destabilisation strategy targeting the European Union. The portrayal of the instrumentalisation of migration by neighbouring countries as a hybrid threat is often used to justify restrictions on migrants’ fundamental rights, including the temporary suspension of the right to asylum, in the name of safeguarding state security and stability.
About the Speaker: MA Joanna Grygiel-Zasada is a research assistant and PhD candidate at the Poznan Human Rights Centre of the Institute of Law Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences (ILS PAS). She is also a member of the Centre for Research on Law and Hybrid Threats, ILS PAS. Joanna authored publications in the fields of criminal law, human rights law, and public international law. Her scientific interest focuses on torture prevention and human rights monitoring at borders. Since 2023, she has been an attorney-at-law at the District Bar Association in Poznan. Joanna is also a member of the Polish Group of the International Law Association.
