The “Advancing Victims’ Rights in a Global Context: From East to West” conference is designed as a comprehensive forum that explores the evolution, challenges, and future directions of victimhood and victim rights in Eastern and Central Europe – and how these dynamics resonate on the global stage. The event will gather leading international experts, practitioners, and scholars to discuss a wide range of interrelated topics. In the wake of widespread crimes – from aggression and war crimes to crimes against humanity and genocide – this conference creates an essential space for dialogue on how legal systems from both Eastern and Western traditions can come together to ensure accountability and support for victims.

Our goal is to dissect the current legal mechanisms of victim’s protection, compare contrasting approaches, and identify practical ways to enhance victim human rights protection. The event will feature in-depth updates on the judicial processes currently underway in Ukraine, including insights from local lawyers handling over 150,000 cases related to wartime atrocities. Attendees will be granted the opportunity to participate in lively discussions regarding the best practices for victim-centered justice.
