General information
The Institute of Law Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Warsaw) opens a call for a post-doctoral researcher in the project “Special-purpose sovereigns”: online platforms and the new contract law of the digital era. The project is financed by the National Science Centre (OPUS grant 2020/37/B/HS5/04212).
The project is focused on the regulatory role of online platforms such as Amazon, eBay, Uber and Airbnb. These providers act as intermediaries when concluding and implementing contracts that are agreed upon between platform users. To a large extent, the providers set their own rules and thus create contract law “microsystems”. Since the platforms operate in a non-uniform legal setting that is shaped by national and transnational rules and characterized by many gaps and ambiguities, they are able to continuously expand and reinforce their autonomy as regards the setting of rules. The research is going to identify the underlying structural patterns of platforms’ rulemaking, as well as to construe a comprehensive theoretical framework for the new modes of market governance establishes and applied by platforms.
The post-doctoral researcher is expected to carry out independent research and to cooperate with other researchers within the framework of the project. The successful candidate will be offered a 3-year employment agreement at the Institute of Law Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Tasks in the project can be carried out remotely and there is no residence requirement in Warsaw.
